svar: The time only shows when the clock is plugged into the mains with a USB charging adapter. The AAA batteries retain the time setting when the power is off, but the display only shows the time for a couple of seconds if the power is disconnected. Please note that the display is incredibly bright and does not dim much. It will light up a dark room.

The instructions provided can be confusing to some and there is no way to keep only the time on display. Additionally, the clock's time display only appears when it's plugged into the mains, the display is bright and does not dim much, and it may not save the time if accidentally unplugged.
