Griggs Group in England saw the potential and created the first work boot with the revolutionary air cushioned sole. On April 1, 1960, the first cherry red eight-eyelet work boot was produced, known as the 1460.
To appeal to the English market, the brand name was anglicized to Dr. Martens. The range was named AirWair, and the rest is history. The Dr.
