Rockler recommends using specific drill bits, which are also not supplied with the jig. Some users have reported that the jig is made of cheap plastic and melted while drilling through 3/4" hard maple, causing the drill bit to move out of alignment and ruin the work piece. There are three sizes of dowel holes that can be used, but a new backer board is needed for each unless the board is unscrewed and moved over to create a new zero clearance hole. The Kregg clamps might be a better option than other brands to hold the jig in place during drilling. Overall, the Rockler Doweling Jig is a handy tool, but with some limitations.
