As per the FAQ, it is safe to use with food and works great for making mashed potatoes, but may require some extra effort and a dough scraper. It does not have any support at the bottom but could be used attached to a mixing bowl upside down. The mesh does not appear to be replaceable. Customers found it to be of good quality, durable and as described. One customer found it to be a bit harder to run stuff through than expected.
